Dear Strongbad,

I want to have the bestest halloween
costume ever this year. How can I make
a strongbad costume?

STRONG BAD: {typing} Well Ben, I couldn't agree with you more. You dress up like me this year and the ladies will flock to you like the Poopsmith to an overflowing toilet. {stops typing} But I digress. Onto the costume... {gets up}

{Cut to the Field.}

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} We'll demonstrate on stupid over here.

{Homestar drops from the sky and lands in the middle of the Field.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Hello!

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} First, paint your head red.

{Homestar's head is slapped and becomes red.}

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} Then, take your shirt off... to expose your manly chest.

{Homestar's shirt peels off and a digital blur appears over his white, naked body.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Oh!

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} Next, get some boxing gloves,—

{Giant boxing gloves appear on Homestar's feet.}

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} —or if you don't have boxing gloves, oven mitts will do.

{A huge pink oven mitt appears on Homestar's head.}

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} Next, duct tape some aluminum foil—

{Aluminum foil appears to Homestar's right in a blue box labeled "ALUMINUM FOIL" on two sides.}

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} —to some twine.

{A ball of twine appears to Homestar's left. Duct tape appears, attaches to the aluminum foil, wraps around Homestar's legs and then wraps around the twine.}

STRONG BAD: {offscreen} And finally, get your mom to make you a Strong Bad costume. You'll be the belle of the ball.

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I'm a belle!

{Cut back to the Tandy 400.}

STRONG BAD: {sits down, doesn't type} Okay, so until next time, who put the "ween" in "Halloween"? I don't know. Probably you. ...you freakin' weirdo!

{The Paper comes down.}

Explanations

• 'Belle' is French for 'beauty' or 'a beauty'. 'Belle of the ball' is a common phrase to describe the most striking woman at a party.
• The writer of this email claims to be from Ohio University. OU is famous for its annual Halloween street party, which features several thousand costumed revelers.

Trivia

• This is another of the very few emails that had the "Old Emails" button on the monitor. It has since been removed by The Brothers Chaps to fit with the rest of the Strong Bad Emails.
• This is the last email where Strong Bad's head is at the right side of the screen and a bit higher, making his mouth visible. This is also the last email where his head doesn't move while talking, and the last email to use Strong Bad's old head style.
• This is the first email in which Homestar makes a personal appearance.
• This is the first email to be over one minute long.
• This is the first email where the intro is not a song.
• When Strong Bad says "you freakin' weirdo" at the end of the email, he uses his current voice, without the Hispanic accent, which he uses in full for the first time in the next email, brianrietta.
• The YouTube description for this email is "Strong Bad demonstrates the best way to make a Strong Bad Halloween costume on Stupid Over Here, I mean Homestar."

Remarks

• The clouds in the background of the field move in an unusual up-and-down pattern, instead of blowing to one side as clouds usually do in the wind.

Goofs

• When Homestar falls, he has a circular shadow, but it disappears as soon as he lands.
• When Strong Bad returns to the Tandy, the text he typed before is missing.

Fixed Goofs

• Clicking "back" used to lead to the Games menu instead of the Strong Bad Email menu.
  • This has since been fixed, although if it is clicked on while it is fading in, it still leads to the Games menu.

Inside References

• Strong Bad receives his second Crapfully Yours-style signature in this email.
• The oven mitt that Homestar is given is the same one Strong Bad was wearing in In Search of the Yello Dello.

MIKE: This is the last one we did before we started doing them weekly.

MATT: Yep.

MIKE: ...or relatively weekly.

MATT: And then we were still doing them... I was still in New York, livin' in New York... I was in New York and living in New York.

{pause}

MIKE: Um...

MATT: Yeah, these ones, I think I just recorded them. They were so, like, simple for—this was one of the more complicated ones for early on, but I would just send you audio and you'd do the entire thing.

MIKE: Yeah. It didn't take very long back then.

MATT: There's our... there's our Homestar Runner.

MIKE: The hills-slash-bushes in the background are a little different than usual.

MATT: Yeah, they are.

MIKE: Oooh, the pixelated, naked Homestar.

MATT: That was a big achievement. I think you—but that had already been done for the main page.

MIKE: Yeah, the shower main page, yep.

MATT: That aluminum foil's really good, too.

MIKE: Yeah, it's...

MATT: Nice work, Mike.

MIKE: Thanks, man.

MATT: Did we see, somebody sent us, uh, I think somebody did—

MIKE: Oh yeah, someone dressed up—

MATT: —Pretty much made that con... contest...

MIKE: Costume. It's costume, Matt! Costume!

MATT: Costume palace! Hah! That's from one of our later we—episodes.
