"Modern" horror survival game

Hunt the Wumpus is a turn-based text adventure game where the player is tasked with killing the Wumpus. It is cited to be one of the first in the survival horror genre.

Appearances

  • Thy Dungeonman — If you input the command SMELL/SNIFF, you get a line of dialogue saying "You smell a Wumpus", based on a line that appears in Hunt the Wumpus when the player is in a room adjacent to the Wumpus.
  • HomestarRunner.com: PAY PLUS! — The floppy disk seen during the "Trap Door" sample reads "hunt the wumpus".
