"Modern" horror survival game
Hunt the Wumpus is a turn-based text adventure game where the player is tasked with killing the Wumpus. It is cited to be one of the first in the survival horror genre.
Appearances
- Thy Dungeonman — If you input the command SMELL/SNIFF, you get a line of dialogue saying "You smell a Wumpus", based on a line that appears in Hunt the Wumpus when the player is in a room adjacent to the Wumpus.
- HomestarRunner.com: PAY PLUS! — The floppy disk seen during the "Trap Door" sample reads "hunt the wumpus".
- Thy Dungeonman II — If you are not holding your nose and input the SNIFF command, you get a line of dialogue saying "Art thou wearing Wumpus, the new fragrance by Monarch?".
- @StrongBadActual Tweet (3 Oct 2022) — Strong Bad names Hunt the Wumpus among "modern horror survival games" and "triple-A titles".
