Marshie's Malloween Mix-Up is a game based on Malloween Commercial, released simultaneously with the toon.

Marshie can be toggled between the two colors to collect and bomb the proper marshmallows — but if he collides with malloweens of the wrong color, he loses energy.

Marshie glides through the air above the spooky woods, controlled by the arrow keys. The game scrolls horizontally; Orange and black malloweens appear constantly scattered throughout the screen, while orange and black bags appear occasionally at the bottom of the screen. Marshie glows with a colored aura, toggled between orange and black with A. Marshie will collect malloweens of his matching color (up to a total of five, collecting a satchel will increase the current color's capacity by one), and will take damage from colliding with a marshmallow of the wrong color. The Spacebar drops a malloween of Marshie's current color (if available). Points are earned by bombing marshmallows into the appropriately-colored bag, a certain number of points are required to advance to the next level. Collecting "Can D" cans will increase Marshie's speed. The game can be paused with the P key.

The game ends once Marshie runs out of extra lives. The "game over" screen shows the player's score, play time, level reached, and accuracy percentage. The Sad Kids (wearing their Halloween costumes) stand in the corner next to orange and black bags.

Marshie's Malloween Mix-Up

This Halloween game was released at the same time as Malloween Commercial, and a week prior to 3 Times Halloween Funjob. It is similar to the game Ikaruga in that the player must master two different "colors" (in this case black and orange). To do so, the player must collect marshmallows of the same color as Marshie's current aura while simultaneously avoiding marshmallows of the other color.

Marshie's Malloween Mix-Up

Marshie's Malloween Mix-Up is a game based on Malloween Commercial, released simultaneously with the toon.

Marshie must drop the orange and black flavored Fluffy Puff Malloweens into their appropriately-colored treat sacks to earn points. Marshie can be toggled between the two colors to collect and bomb the proper marshmallows — but if he collides with malloweens of the wrong color, he loses energy.

Gameplay

How to do it

Fun Facts

Explanations

Trivia

  • This game was originally only accessible by clicking the What's New button, briefly becoming a secret page before it was added to the Scrolling Shooter Games Menu in 2004.
  • This and Make-o Your own Stinko are the only games on the Scrolling Shooter Games Menu not made by Videlectrix. Malloween is the only one of these games that is not in a retro graphics style.
  • The Scrolling Shooter Games Menu abbreviates the game's name to "Marshie Ween".

Remarks

"lourding..."

Goofs

  • The full page title reads "More Marshie for the Kids! - Mrshie's Malloween Mix-Up", omitting an a.

Glitches

  • After the first level, the level counter in the upper left corner displays the previous level, rather than the current level.
  • If Caps Lock is on, the "A" and "P" keys do not function.
  • If the player pauses the game while a bag is on-screen, the bag shows but nothing else does.
  • Marshie's color can still be changed on the pause screen.
    • This is an advantage: if there is a situation such as an orange marshmallow and a black marshmallow (or vice versa) directly next to each other, the player can collect the first one, pause, press a, then resume and get the other one.
  • If the player gets a high enough hit accuracy during the game, upon finishing it may record the hit percentage as over 100%.

Real-World References

  • The game Ikaruga uses a similar polarity-swapping feature.
  • The creepy music heard in the beginning is adapted from "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor", a Bach composition that is often associated with horror and Halloween. It is played in a different key.
  • Marshie's health bar, the sound he makes when he dies, and the pattern of circles left behind are from the Mega Man games.
  • The sound made when the game is paused is used in many of the NES games made by Konami, such as The Adventures of Bayou Billy and Contra.
  • The instructions are formatted like the picture stories in the children's magazine Highlights.
