The option to sign up for a mailing list was first offered through [[Index Page Footer|a message on the footer]] of the site's [[Index Page|index page]] on January 13, 2018 ([[Trogday (holiday)|Trogday]]). At the time, the site was &quot;trying out some new stuff&quot; in preparation for the discontinuation of [[Flash]] — this included exploring several redesigns of the site in general and the index page in particular.
 
The first installment of this newsletter was sent less than two weeks later, on January 24. &quot;The Deleteheads Download&quot; was written in-character as [[Strong Sad]], leader of [[Strong Bad Email]] fan club [[The Deleteheads]], sent from his email address ([[Contacts|depressio@homestarrunner.com]]). Four volumes were sent out, continuing through November of 2019.
 
The mailing list [[Hiatuses|was not used]] for several years. By 2021, [[Post-Flash Site Update|a site update]] had redesigned the index page to no longer include the signup option; signups are still available at the [[Trogdor!! The Board Game Website|Trogdor!! The Board Game website]] and an abandoned, hidden [https://new.homestarrunner.com/ former redesign of the index page].
 
In 2024, the emails returned with a fifth installment. These were now rebranded simply as &quot;Homestar Runner Updates&quot;, sent from deleteheads@homestarrunner.com; acknowledging the time that had passed, emails now included a footer that allowed no-longer-interested former fans to unsubscribe. The footer also includes links to [[Social Media|social media]] and [[Music Streaming Profiles|music streaming profiles]]. The newsletter is no longer written in-character (though it still features the site's signature sense of humor), allowing for more concise descriptions of what is new.

The Deleteheads Download is a Homestar Runner email newsletter started by The Brothers Chaps in 2018 to share news and exclusive previews of new or upcoming Homestar Runner material with fans, and is the second such newsletter, the first having been discontinued in 2003. Installments are presented by Strong Sad's character as leader of The Deleteheads, using Strong Sad's email address (depressio@homestarrunner.com). The option to sign up was first offered on January 13, 2018 (Trogday), as part of several updates to the Index Page. On December 31, 2020, the Index Page was redesigned and no longer features the signup option; signups are still available at the Trogdor!! The Board Game Website and the abandoned redesign of the index page.
