Roomisode, too?

Dangeresque Roomisode 2: The Intersection of Doom & Boom is the direct sequel to Dangeresque Roomisode 1: Behind the Dangerdesque, taking place immediately after its ending scene. Unlike its standalone prequel, Roomisode 2 was only released as part of the Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate game bundle.

Like the first game, it is structured as a Videlectrix graphic adventure game in the style of those produced by LucasArts and Sierra Entertainment. The player takes control of both Dangeresque and Renaldo, attempting to disarm a bomb in the Dangecaresque. Screenshots and other production information have been shared to the @StrongBadActual Twitter and Instagram pages. Prior to its release, Strong Bad jokingly described the game as more of an "intersectionisode" than a "roomisode".

Gameplay

See Dangeresque Roomisode 2: The Intersection of Doom & Boom Responses

The Intersection of Doom & Boom is a point-and-click adventure game. The player controls Dangeresque in the street intersection and Renaldo inside the Dangecaresque, and can interact with people and items by choosing to look at, manipulate, or talk to them. Dangeresque and Renaldo narrate the actions they take, for the benefit of the player. Puzzles frequently require completing several steps in sequence or combining multiple items.

To win the game, Dangeresque must defuse the bomb hidden in the engine of Dangecaresque. To do that, he must:

  • Open the hood of the car.
  • Calm down a panicking Renaldo.
  • Stop traffic in the road to gain access to the maintenance hole in the street.
  • Retrieve the Quickstart Guide from the sewer.
  • Use the instructions on the guide to defuse the bomb.

Losing the game

  • Walk into the street five times before stopping the green car.
  • Try to Get/Use the bomb.
  • Try to short out the bomb before cutting the wires.
  • Cut the wires in an incorrect order.
  • After cutting the first wire, fail to defuse the bomb quickly enough.

Development

"Beardo subterranean Strong Sad", an earlier iteration of his electrician role

Dangeresque Roomisode 1: Behind the Dangerdesque was released on December 1, 2008. The numbered title of "Roomisode 1" indicated potential for sequels; the possibility of a second roomisode was mentioned in an April 24, 2009 update to the Videlectrix website. Soon after, homestarrunner.com went on an extended hiatus; no further updates would be posted to the Videlectrix site.

On October 5, 2017, Strong Bad posted an animated scene from Roomisode 2 to Twitter; the post was discussing Roomisode 1 and did not acknowledge this scene was from a different game. On September 23, 2018, in the wake of Telltale Games' closure, Strong Bad joined former Telltale employees in reminiscing about working on Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. As the conversation turned to Videlectrix's feud with Telltale that had led to the release of Roomisode 1, a potential sequel was again mentioned. Strong Bad replied with a brief description of the game, including the same animation from earlier. Later that day, he posted a Twitter thread revealing more information about the game, including responses and graphics — Renaldo's presence as a secondary playable character was shared, as well as an underground scene featuring a bearded Strong Sad; the game's goal of defusing a bomb inside the Dangecaresque was also revealed. At this point, the game was still being referred to in past tense as a "never-finished" project.

In 2023, the game was revisited again on social media — though now referred to as actively "upcoming". Posts were made using the #screenshotsaturday hashtag common among indie game developers, though as they were posted on differing days of the week many used humorous tags like "#ScreenshotMondurday" or "#ScreenshotThursdurday". Rather than a standalone release, the game was officially announced to be part of Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate: a collection that also included an expanded port of the first game to modern formats as well as an additional third game.

Responses shared to @StrongBadActual , some of which did not appear in the final game.

  • In a development screenshot demonstrating a response for talking to the trash can, Strong Bad references Sesame Street characters Oscar the Grouch (who lives in a trash can) and Mr. Hooper; also alluded to is a memorable episode of the show that dealt with the death of Mr. Hooper, produced when actor Will Lee passed away.
  • Renaldo's worry of dying on the terlet is a reference to Lethal Weapon 2 where Roger Murtaugh gets caught up in an assassination attempt involving a pressure-sensitive bomb set under his toilet.
  • Dangeresque's explanation for not throwing anything down the drain is because of "clown murder joke... balloon", referencing Pennywise the clown from It.
  • Dangeresque sings about a "city streetlight, born and raised in south Detrite" and asks if it is one of them "streetlight people", referencing the song "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.
  • Rig Rug is a parody of the Namco arcade game Dig Dug.
    • The game having the ability to call Federal Government agents is a reference to the urban legend of the arcade game Polybius which in some telling of the story was part of a government conspiracy to control people through lights and sounds.
  • Pooyan is a 1982 game produced by Konami for arcades and the Atari 2600.
  • "Wanton destruction is the pinnacle!" is a line from the "Hector & Kovitch: Basement" episode of Two More Eggs.
  • If Dangeresque places the air freshener on the green car's antenna, the music that plays, the antenna drooping, and the lines spoken by Dangeresque are an homage to the Peanuts special A Charlie Brown Christmas.
  • Dangeresque hopes that the sewers are C.H.U.D.-free since 1993, referencing the "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers" from the 1984 horror movie C.H.U.D..
