"'Em Up!"

The words 'em up are sometimes added after verbs in odd contexts. The name Dan is frequently used in these structures.

Appearances

• TROGDOR! — One of the interludes contains the phrase "fry 'em up Dan", which is a direct quote from Shel Silverstein's poem "Ladies First".
• Duck Guardian One — The hint for wave 17 instructs the player to shoot an egg with the Hatch Ray to "HATCH 'em up".
• Stinkoman 20X6 — Terrell's description in the Stinkomanual tells the player to "Blast em up Dan!".
• Email pop-up — As Strong Bad pulls the tab that makes him kick The Cheat, he says "Boot 'em up, boot 'em up, boot 'em up, y'all."
• Kid Speedy — The Videlectrix catalog describes the game as a "hilarious arcade-style race 'em up". This is probably derived from the phrase "shoot 'em up", a genre of video game.
• Lappynapped! — Strong Bad calls the Lappy 486 his "full-on favorite fold-'em-up computer".
• Fan Costumes '06 — The page title is "The Crazy Dress 'Em Ups".
• Email pizza joint — The King of Town carries "Lite Em Up Dan" lighter fluid.
  • The lighter fluid appears again in your edge, videography, and Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 17.2.
• The phrase "Wind 'em up Dan!" was used to introduce the Wind-Up Homestar T-shirt.
• Email yes, wrestling — Homestar Runner's wrestling persona is "The Jack 'Em Up Kid".
  • The Jack 'Em Up Kid is referenced in Homestar Ruiner, and was featured in the Sketchbook on November 29, 2007 and November of the 2011 Calendar.
• SBCG4AP Advertisement — Strong Bad describes the game as "a 3D point-and-click-'em-up adventure".
  • The phrase "point-and-click-'em-up adventure" describing SBCG4AP also appears in the Telltale Games press release, the SBCG4AP Collector's DVD, a Main Page pop-up, and the Videlectrix website, and was on the Store's front page on August 27, 2009.
• Homestar Ruiner — Homestar goes through his "pre-race psyche-'em-ups".
• 8-Bit is Enough — Homestar refers to TROGDOR! as a "walk 'em up" videogame.
• Posh Toilet Paper — Strong Bad uses "close-'em-up" to refer to a line that closes an open shape.
• Cartoon Characters — Strong Bad uses a "cross em up" to draw the bottom of Character 2's shirt.
• Fan Costumes 2017 — The page is titled "Dress em' up Dan!"
• Stack 'Em to the Heavens! — Marshie states that in the titular game, players take turns making "radical stack-'em-ups".
• Trogdor!! The Board Game — Two action cards named "Flip 'em Up Dan" and "Flip 'em Up Fran" allow the player to burninate tiles surrounding Trogdor.
  • Kickstarter Update #30 has a photo of sleeved playing cards captioned "Sleeve-em-up Dan!"
  • Expando Deck Promo — One of the cards included in the expansion is "Sneak 'Em Up Stan"
• Fan 'Stumes 2022 — Strong Bad refers to the challenges to costume makers that he posts to Twitter as a "tweet-'em-ups challenge".
• Decemberweenvent Calendar (Day 2) — Stave It Off is referred to as a "kids' learn-em-up song".
• Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate — The "Save" and "Load" menus are labeled "SAVE-EM-UP-DAN" and "LOAD-EM-UP-DAN".
  • Trailer — The narrator describes the game as a "point-and-click-em-up adventure" and promotes its "full voice-em-ups audio".
