<dl><dd>Actually, I've seen it without the email label (generally right before I add it), and I just don't like it. It doesn't look as good. I think it needs it oftentimes because, in a list, it looks slightly off, due to the lowercaseness of the email titles. Also, toons, games, and other such items have more title-like names, whereas the emails are titled with just simple words. The email qualifier in the title makes it look better. --<a href="/index.php?title=User:DorianGray" title="User:DorianGray">DorianGray</a> 03:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Both of these projects began about a year ago, were overshadowed by other issues, and forgotten. I've been trying to get these pages noticed again (a posted note on Spoken Articles about a month ago yielded no response), but it seems they might be in limbo forever. I'd like to revisit these projects again and make the decisions that we put off. Are Spoken Articles beneficial and useful? Should we change our favicon and, if so, what to? These are unsettling questions that we shouldn't forget about. Click on CSS in Lapper's post for the CSS file itself. You can copy it from there. == Toon: ==

Perhaps, for every page that has links to a Toon, it should have "Toon:". Like how it is for every toon that has a link to an email. This could help make all of the pages cleaner and presentable towards everyone that comes here.--Dr. Watson 20:48, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that's necessary. They're all toons. We use the email label to highlight them, for some reason. — It's dot com 20:52, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Then why not just get rid of the email label. Maybe it's just me, but I was noticing that it would look better either way. Either way meaning, also with the toon label, or with out the email label.--Dr. Watson 20:59, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Dr. Watson is right. It would look better, probably without the 'toon' or'email' label or whatever. https://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/thumb/5/55/newvisorrobot.png/18px-newvisorrobot.png Visorbot 386 01:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I've seen it without the email label (generally right before I add it), and I just don't like it. It doesn't look as good. I think it needs it oftentimes because, in a list, it looks slightly off, due to the lowercaseness of the email titles. Also, toons, games, and other such items have more title-like names, whereas the emails are titled with just simple words. The email qualifier in the title makes it look better. --DorianGray 03:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Two That Need To Be Revisited
I've been checking up on HRWiki:Spoken Articles and HRWiki:Favicon for a long time now to see if anyone else cares about them besides me. Let's not let these projects gather dust. -Brightstar Shiner 21:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! If it were socially acceptable (or even possible) to hug you, I would! Now I hope this topic doesn't get ignored or I might just have to resort to asking users in their talk pages to help me out on this one. If we start these projects up again, we can finally resolve some of these issues. By the way, your sig looks great. It changed on my userpage, too.  -Brightstar Shiner 21:53, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Why, thank you. Heh heh, yeah.  Just some advice though: once you get a microphone, make sure it is a headset.  I have a real good headset, and it only cost me 12 dollars at Wal-Mart.  Because normal mics sometimes tend to be unclear.  Good jokes, TheYellowDart—[]/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Theyellowdart c)] 21:59, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
The hug thing? I just say that a lot. It has nothing to do with you personally. As for the advice, thanks for it. I know I am not a big contributor to the wiki as a random IP editor, but I have noticed something on the Wiki that should not be. On the Main Page there is an updates section where it shows all of the recent add-ons to www.homestarrunner.com, but suddenly on this talk page there are users celebrating the new add-on to the website like it is the best thing that has ever happened to them. I just think the update notifications should be only on the Main Page. 74.245.20.195 00:21, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Cheers dot com, preferences are the best for everyone.  I don't know why anyone looking at recent changes wouldn't want this info, but hey that is their preference.—BryanC[][/wiki/Special:Contributions/Bryanc C] 05:12, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Main Page Templates

Is there a page for the Main Page templates I can copy for the Flash Wiki? Or is it part of the .css file?

The classes used for the Main Page templates are indeed part of the CSS file. If you wish to use this code, you'll have to attribute it to HRWiki in accordance with our creative commons deed. — Lapper (talk) 21:23, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
I promise I will. But can somebody copy the code for me? PLEASE? 63.230.104.26 22:29, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Click on CSS in Lapper's post for the CSS file itself. You can copy it from there. And, by the way, it's not really "code", it's a style sheet which styles HTML markup. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:52, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Update... March 8

Theres a new quote of the week by the KOT >.> --124.185.236.202 17:21, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! — It's dot com 19:31, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Toon:

Visorbot 386 01:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Let's not let these projects gather dust. -Brightstar Shiner 21:12, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I've been dying to help out with the Spoken Articles. We do need to bring these projects back! new sig!--TheYellowDart(t/c) 21:48, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Good jokes, TheYellowDart(t/c) 21:59, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
The hug thing? I just say that a lot. It has nothing to do with you personally. As for the advice, thanks for it. If we can get a couple more people in here (or better yet, a couple dozen people), maybe the ball could get rolling again with these projects. -Brightstar Shiner 22:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
I've always been confined to gnome work around here. I'd love to finally do something major, but I don't own a microphone of any kind, so I guess I could help with the Favicon thing. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 18:08, 11 March 2007
<laughs> Join the club. I don't own a microphone either. But by the looks of it it should be pretty easy to get one. -Brightstar Shiner 22:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I intend to pick the favicon discussion up very soon, but I think the spoken articles project fell by the wayside because it should have. — It's dot com 01:34, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Ah, c'mon, Dot Com. We'll do it one day. When the Wiki is a little more wealthier. Brightstar, I know, I was just teasing you. ;-). I like the favcon as it is, actually. --TheYellowDart(t/c) 01:44, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Dot Com, we may not actually record many articles, but this is giving us an excuse to work on the FAs to make them perfect. Once you see how great they look, maybe you'll see our point in this. As for the favicon, Yellowdart, we need to change it because of copyright reasons. -Brightstar Shiner 01:48, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Suggestions for articles

Question: does anyone think I should make some kind of article on how things like "Marshie", "Musty", and Delicious "Bag" all have quotes around a word? They are all food items, and it seems like more than just a coincidence...feedback?-- Nevadie 20:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

NEW EMAIL!

I new email was put up litterally like 5 minutes ago from when I am typing this. I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN THE FIRST VIEWER TO SEE IT! WOO! It's called FUNERAL. --The Denzel 01:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it's called your funeral. I wonder if TBC had heard about the Bluffton bus accident when they made this. It really made me think of it... -Brightstar Shiner 01:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
As I have no idea what you're talking about, I think it's likely that's irrelevent to the email. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:02, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Umm... don't worry about it. It's most likely irrelevent and if you don't know what it is, that's a good thing. -Brightstar Shiner 02:08, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Conjecture template

Anyone think it's time to make one of those templates that says that the title of an article isn't official? I got the idea from Wookiepedia's template, and I think it would apply to a bunch of articles, like Balding Man, Shadowy Figure, and others. Dr. Clash 20:30, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm... hesitant. I don't really like th' idea... I can't say why, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Templates aren't supposed to stay on pages for an extended period of time. --DorianGray 20:36, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't think we need it. We ought to be able to word an article such that merely reading it leaves you with the correct impression of whether the title is a name or not. We could also move those to "Balding man" and "Shadowy figure" so that it's easier to tell. — It's dot com 20:55, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Whodunnit?

Who changed the captchas? There all H*R related now. Sweet! --SD...not signed in.

April 1 Update?

Anybody spied an April Fools update yet on the main site?--AtionSong 14:22, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Dang! Still nothing?! Oh well... They'd better not skimp out on us tomorrow!... (just kidding!) Anyways, great job with that "Shut Down" screen immediately redirecting to the donations page! Already got a ton of dough, yo! Not me at all

April One side effect?

Hey, you guys know the neat little Capthca images put up for April One also work on pages that NEED them right? The move page to name one. Just saying, it's a little alarming. But, I've been known to overreact. OH MY GOD SOMEONE SENT ME AN EMAIL! Bluebry 00:21, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Why is it alarming? They're still captcha images. They're still not machine-readable. — It's dot com 00:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Willy on Wheels can now constructively edit twice as fast. ;-) But, seriosuly, I'm probably just overreacting. Although, I do think it kinda weakens security. Of course, there are sysops here a lot, so, yeah. Bluebry 00:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
This is a seriously alarming affair. I recommend weeping into your pillow. Often. Numerously. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 00:58, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Getting nervous

I admit that I freak out easily, but the lack of an April Fools joke, and a lack of anything on Monday is making me nervous. Are they okay? --Jnelson09 18:41, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Look, The Brothers Chaps aren't the only people in their family. If something bad happened, then another member of their family would probably tell us on the website. Don't forget, they have a baby now. --TotalSpaceshipGirl3 18:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

I know. I just... Boy, am I a jerk. Never mind. --Jnelson09 18:47, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

No, no, it's okay. Everyone's a little nervous that nothing's come up in a few weeks. I sure hope nothing bad really did happen... -Brightstar Shiner 20:27, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
A few weeks? The latest update was on March 26, a mere 7 days ago. --TotalSpaceshipGirl3 20:32, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Remember that really long Summer break thing when they updated really infrequently? Maybe they're like on a trip or something. It is spring Break here in America, anyway. - Zephiel
People, relax. These is a couple of folks with busy lives outside their jobs. There have been times, and there will again be times, when a very long time will pass with no updates. There's absolutely no sense in getting nervous. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 21:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Qermaq. I'm sure they are busy, so they'll probably just update later. We can wait another week (even though some of us don't want to). --Collin Diver 22:45, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

April 3 update?

the HSR webpage says the last update was april 3. What was it? don't they normally only say they've updated it when something is released? this page doesnt even list anything as april 3 -JamesDean 05:55, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

My nearest guess would be the Store update(s). --DorianGray 05:56, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

New one just out. Number 169. --Jnelson09 21:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

how on earth are people this obsessive?

I like the cartoon, and I have to admit that I'm glad that this wiki exists, because I look up stuff every now and again, but the level of detail in this things is really staggering considering that it's all centered on this funky little internet cartoon. Crazy times.

It's not as much of a devotion of time to homestar runner, as it is lack of anything else to devote time to. DeFender1031 08:23, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, while that is partly true, I'd add that since there are many contributors, only a few minutes of new material a week isn't a terrible chore to document. That said, it's a hobby for some, as stamp collecting or skateboarding is for others. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 08:52, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Meh. I enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with being a little obsessive with your fandom.— Bassbone (TALK Strong Mad Has a Posse CONT) 08:55, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

A New EMAIL!!

rough copy http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail170.html

Okay, what is the deal.

Actually, they are supposed to be only on the Main Page. The problem is that many new users and IPs do not know that they are supposed to add the update to Template:whatsnew, so they put the notice on this page instead. Then, usually a more experienced editor sees the notice, and does what needs to be done. Has Matt? (talk) 00:26, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
EDIT CONFLICT: Usually they're random users (a good portion of which is IPs who neglect to sign their comments, see above) who either don't know how to edit templates or don't know that the "What's New" template isn't protected. Also, on a talk page, items can be discussed, whereas we can't have discussion on the Main Page. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 00:28, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

And what, pray tell, might those be?

Hi everyone! I just logged on quickly and, well... what are those light-gray numbers in parentheses on the "Recent Changes" page? They are new, right? I haven't been missing them this whole thyme, have I? Does it have to do with that MediaWiki 1.9 thing? kai lyn 18:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

It is new to MediaWiki 1.9. It represents the number of bytes added to or taken away from a page. --TotalSpaceshipGirl3 18:54, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, that's cool. Thank you! kai lyn 18:56, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
So bytes are roughly equivalent to characters? --DorianGray 19:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
It might actually be characters, I always assumed it was bytes. Or are you just telling me of in a clever way? --TotalSpaceshipGirl3 19:03, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
No, I always assumed it was characters, and dunno if you're actually be correct (having never been told directly by some software programmer, or something). --DorianGray 19:10, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
It's bytes Nevermind. Maybe it is characters. After a recount, I realized that it was net 0. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 22:09, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I think it's characters. Trey56 22:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
It's bytes.It's dot com 22:52, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
In case anyone cares and didn't know, historically encoding one character == one byte (ascii), but one byte isn't enough for more than the standard western alphabet. Enter the tangle of modern encodings, I believe UTF8 is the one used on this wiki. In UTF8 the width of one character may be 1 byte, but may be 2 or 4 bytes, so in layman terms "åbç" is longer "abc", in terms of bytes.BryanCTC 05:12, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
So interesting. Mind sharing with the hoi-polloi what use all this is? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:21, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
To get an idea of the extent of the changes, before looking at the page? I don't know. Shwoo 02:13, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
It's useful in a more fast-pased environment like Wikipedia, of course. But if you see someone "fixing a spelling error" and you see -2,306, you know to jump on the diff. —BazookaJoe 02:57, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
'Bout time we got these (and the undo button by the way). Now vandals don't have a chance! Yay! --TheYellowDart(t/c) 03:00, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I dunno... Do we even want this feature enabled? To me it seems to just take up space while providing a very slim benefit about once every 400 edits for something that we'd catch anyway. — It's dot com 05:23, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I've been using it on IRC for a while now, and I really like it. I've been waiting for it to make it's way into RC. Too bad that it's mostly grey and hard to read, though. Loafing 05:30, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I admit it's useful on the IRC channel, at any rate. But the IRC channel makes it somewhat redundant (I look at that to know when to refresh here). On the other hand, it's potentially useful for those who don't use the IRC RC, for the same reasons as the IRC one. So... I guess I'm neutral to it. --DorianGray 05:32, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm abivalent as well. It's nice to see the really big red deletions, but I could easily live without anything. Trey56 05:34, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I think the red ones are more useful than the gray ones. Is there any way to just print out the red ones? --Stux 05:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
That's a good idea. Another one — how easy would it be to make the numbers an option in Preferences? Trey56 05:40, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
It would be nicest if media wiki came with those options standard (that and separate features for RC and watchlist). However, I dunno how hard it is, but i don't think adding to the prefs might be trivial. --Stux 06:19, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with them, but I don't mind disabling them either. -- Tom 17:48, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I created a preference to turn the display of these numbers on and off. The default setting is off. If you want to enable them, look in your preferences at the bottom of the "Misc" tab. — It's dot com 04:33, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
