Cricket Noises

"Cracket-dadadadadadada! Cracket-dadadadada!"

When a character is expecting a response from some audience but none is forthcoming, or when a joke falls flat, typically cricket noises will be heard cutting through the silence. The Brothers Chaps did not originate this joke, but they get a lot of use out of it.

• Fluffy Puff Commercial — Homestar Runner is expected to say his line, but he is silent. Crickets chirp.
• The House That Gave Sucky Treats — Homestar says that Marzipan told him to eat a lot of Smarties this year, but he's not sure why. Crickets chirp.
• Strong Bad vs. Little Girl! — When Strong Bad wants Little Girl to "tell all the people how great I am", crickets chirp.
• Biz Cas Fri 2 — Strong Bad is visibly nervous presenting his millions-saving idea to the shareholders. Crickets chirp after he starts ad-libbing.
• Halloween Awards Show — Crickets chirp after Homestar says he's going to win when he and Marzipan are the only ones there.
• Email from work — Nothing happens when Strong Bad starts to describe why he wants to be a 2nd 2nd Assistant Space Whale Scrubber. Crickets chirp.
• Email more armies — In the Easter egg, no one shows up to meet Firebert (The Cheat). Crickets chirp.
• Email mini-golf — The statue of The Wheelchair isn't moving. This is mentioned by Strong Bad. Crickets chirp.
• Marshie vs. Little Girl — Little Girl tells Marshie a joke about vampires (which Marshie is dressed up as), in which the punchline is "Vampires are dumb." Crickets chirp.
• SBCG4AP Gameplay Trailer — Crickets chirp after Homestar says, "I'm pointing. I'm clicking. It's like an adventure."
• The Baloneyman — Homestar attempts to have a conversation with Strong Bad about summer talk. Crickets chirp when Strong Bad fails to understand Homestar's initial explanation on what exactly "summer talk" is.
• Email magic trick — Strong Bad doesn't remember what the milk-in-the-cone trick is supposed to do. Crickets chirp.
• Baddest of the Bands — Crickets chirp after Strong Bad realizes that there isn't anyone at the DÖI concert.
• 4 Gregs — Crickets chirp after D n' D Greg explains how football works.
• Kick-A-Ball — Crickets chirp after "One potato, two potato" is decided on and the Umpire realizes that Homestar doesn't have visible hands.
• Compy Catalog — Crickets chirp as Strong Bad reads the poorly-written exchange written in the catalog attempting to joke about the size of the Roomy-Vac.
• Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Crickets chirp for a moment as Strong Sad struggles to come up with the Poopsmith's doom.
• Haunted Photo Booth — Crickets chirp when the King of Town gets his picture taken.
• Email parenting — Homestar's first attempt as the One-Man Hubbub is met with cricket noises.
