"This is me expressing myself, okay?"
Office Space is a 1999 comedy film directed by Mike Judge. Ron Livingston stars as Peter Gibbons, a disgruntled computer programmer rebelling against his micromanaging boss Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole) and the white-collar corporation for which he works. This oft-quoted movie has been parodied several times in the Homestar Runner body of work.
References
- Hairstyle Runner — One hairstyle in the Gallery is captioned "that guy from office space", referring to Lawrence (Diedrich Bader).
- Fan Stuff — One of the fan submissions includes another Hairstyle Runner (complete with Homestar's body) featuring a Lawrence-style hairdo. The caption quotes Lawrence: "Hey Peter man check out channel 9, check out this chick!"
- The Interview — Homestar Runner uses Lumbergh's "Yeah, that'd be great" line.
- Email lady fan — Strong Bad says "I'm gonna go ahead and need you to...", a play on Lumbergh's catchphrase.
- Sample of Style Too — Matt uses two of Lumbergh's catchphrases when saying "if you could go ahead and... take the blame for all of this, that would be great," to Ryan Sterritt.
- Strong Bad Email Menu — The Corpy NT6 menu (released alongside imaginary) had the page title "Flinger's Menu". Flinger's is a fictional restaurant from the movie.
- Haunted Photo Booth — Marzipan dresses up as Joanna (Jennifer Aniston). A waitress from Chotchkie's, the restaurant requires all the serving staff to wear a minimum of 15 pins ("flair") on their uniforms. Homestar's "We need to talk [...] Don't you want to express yourself?" references a discussion Joanna's manager has with her, while Marzipan's "invisible flair deuce" reaction references a later scene where Joanna quits her job.
- 2022 Costume Pack Now Available — Bubs dresses up as the sticky note-covered man seen on the movie's poster. Although this figure does not appear in the movie, he featured prominently in the marketing much to the consternation of the filmmakers. Clicking on Bubs at the end of the toon triggers an Easter egg consisting of two more quotes from the movie:
- Marzipan says "Corporate accounts payable, Marzipan speaking, just a moment" referencing a repeated line by accountant Nina.
- Bubs says "PC load letter?" referencing a confusing printer error message read by frustrated programmer Michael Bolton. When Coach Z repeats the line — mispronouncing "load" as "lourde" — a printer labeled PC Lourde Letter falls on Homsar, crushing him.
