We all see this edit summary from time to time, but I think it isn't really a good idea to write it. Keeping in mind that the edit summary in a revert is partly to let the editor you reverted know why you reverted, using an initialism that isn't all that common is likely to be confusing, especially since most TTATOT edits come from anonnies and new users. Better, in my opinion, would be to say &quot;rv; that could refer to lots of things&quot; or something like that. We all see this edit summary from time to time, but I think it isn't really a good idea to write it. I agree. I don't write it often (usually spelling it out), but the initials aren't helpful. Searching for it will lead to the glossary entry for T, but I doubt many of them who DO see it and become confused think to search it. --DorianGray 19:41, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Better, but still not as informative for newbies as an edit summary with no jargon. Heimstern Läufer https://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/thumb/0/08/heimstern101.gif/20px-heimstern101.gif 19:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
I firmly disagree. One, this is jargon, but it's rather commonplace jargon which, once learned, is portable to many online fora, including other wikis. Two, the linked TTATOT leads to a full explanation of what it means, so anyone who is confused by the initialism can simply follow the link. Three, I'd surmise less than half the people whose edits have been reverted on the grounds of TTATOT actually saw the edit summary anyway. It's a concise means to convey the reason, it cannot lead to misunderstanding when a link is provided to the explanation, and I don't recall seeing any discussion on the wiki regarding confusion over the term. The only change I would recommend would be for TTATOT to no longer redirect to the Glossary, but to lead to a dedicated page where users can learn what makes a fact TTATOT and how they can avoid it. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) https://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/2/23/Qermaqsigpic.png 02:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
I still believe it is better to avoid the jargon in revert summaries completely (discussions are a different matter, mind you). But as long as it's made clear where to learn what it means, it won't make problems. I also want to point out that TTATOT is not that common jargon.  I certainly had not come across it in other fora, though once explained, the meaning is clear enough.  I would agree with Heimstern that avoiding jargon, and being clear for the reason for reverts is the best policy. Perhaps a standard edit summary that encompasses both notions would be a suitable compromise?  After all the edit summary can accommodate pretty lengthy entries.  For example: rv; That could refer to lots of things. See TTATOT.  That way they get a concise explanation and a more detailed explanation in the page. Everybody happy.  We could even provide the code to this summary in the expanded TTATOT page for copy/paste usage as well: rv; That could refer to lots of things. See TTATOT. Actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. It certainly cleans up the disambig at the top. Although, the top part isn't really all that big just yet... Hmm. Also, there may be the idea that Email Intros doesn't actually include "Part 1" in its name. (On the other hand, does Part 2 contain Part 2 in its name? I'm not sure that forcing people to click on two things (going to the disambiguation page, then going to the article they want) is better then having the simple note at the top of each article. We moved to in-article disambiguation a while back and it has worked quite well for us, especially with the use of about/for/for-nothe/. -- Tom 03:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Since it's known TBC are visiting the wiki from time to time, maybe some kind of note on the main page might be a nice surprise. Something like "The H*R community congratulates on the happy event and wishes all good luck for the future!" (Sorry if the wording is horrible, English is not my native language. In this case, we must forget what's consistent, and stick instead to what's right. We're no longer talking facts and events, we're talking people. If we did not make an official big deal for one shild, what message does it send if we do so now? &quot; We like this child more?&quot; &quot; We'll offer our collective congratulations only if you officially announce your progeny?&quot; This course of action is too likely to come off as either insincere or socially ignorant to be wise. <span style="color:#960;">- Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C])</span>  09:01, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

I think we could have some sort of note posted on the main page, linking to some sort of E-card, that says like, &quot;Best wishes, bla bla bla&quot;, and can be signed by anyone who wants to, just so they can feel the overwhelming support.

I don't think it deserves any mention on the articles themselves. Maybe on a Wii glitches page. Ultimately, though, it comes down to the fact that you're online using a video game console. — It's dot com 01:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Mixer?

The one two mixer should be featured on the main page. After all it was a seperate file.

I disagree. The mixer is barely anything without the toon; they're also used in the same HTML file. — Lapper (talk) 20:56, 29 May 2007 (UTC) He's correct about the separate file; the mixer is now located at "onetwomixer.html". At the same time, it should not be featured on the main page as it is orphaned except for the link in One Two, One Two.· · T2|Things 21:05, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Nitpicky...

I know this is my OCD talking, but there's a grammar error on the Montage snippet:

"...and then makes a montage featuring the Wagon Fulla Pancakes and The Cheat as unsuccessful door-to-door salesman."

"salesman" should read "salesmen." This is because the WFP and TC are plural, so salesmen should reflect that. I have no idea how to edit that main page, so please, could a sysop do it for me? Thank you.

CoveredinSuudzu 04:19, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks a lot. =) If there's one thing worth speaking up about, it's good grammar. --DorianGray 04:22, 31 May 2007 (UTC) Thank you so much! Would it be appropriate to link to the H*R Store in articles which cover purchase-only content? As is we link to the official Flash on other content available on the website. I'm thinking a direct link to the Store page where that item being discussed is available would be an asset to the article as well as a means to simplify a fan's quest to purchase the material. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 22:30, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Saying Jump before jumping

Hi everypeople, I need your help creating a new running gag page. I noticed that in two toons a character mutter jump jumping. In alternate universe Strong Bad does before jumping to the portal and Old Timey Strong Bad before jumping to the root beer. In the paper Strong Bad mutter it before jumping the sinking island to grab The Paper. I'm sure there are at least several other emails like that but I can't seem to find them. Can someone please help? Elcool(talk)[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Elcool (contribs)] 03:23, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I think that's it to date. (In alternate universe Strong Bad also does it in the Strong Badman segment, however.) - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 04:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

"rv; TTATOT"

We all see this edit summary from time to time, but I think it isn't really a good idea to write it. Keeping in mind that the edit summary in a revert is partly to let the editor you reverted know why you reverted, using an initialism that isn't all that common is likely to be confusing, especially since most TTATOT edits come from anonnies and new users. Better, in my opinion, would be to say "rv; that could refer to lots of things" or something like that. Heimstern Läufer 20px-heimstern101.gif 19:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree. I don't write it often (usually spelling it out), but the initials aren't helpful. Searching for it will lead to the glossary entry for T, but I doubt many of them who DO see it and become confused think to search it. --DorianGray 19:41, 28 June 2007 (UTC) You are able to link TTATOT in your edit summary. —BazookaJoe 19:51, 28 June 2007 (UTC) Better, but still not as informative for newbies as an edit summary with no jargon. Heimstern Läufer 20px-heimstern101.gif 19:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC) I firmly disagree. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 02:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC) I still believe it is better to avoid the jargon in revert summaries completely (discussions are a different matter, mind you). But as long as it's made clear where to learn what it means, it won't make problems. Heimstern Läufer 20px-heimstern101.gif 01:38, 2 July 2007 (UTC) I also want to point out that TTATOT is not that common jargon. I certainly had not come across it in other fora, though once explained, the meaning is clear enough. I would agree with Heimstern that avoiding jargon, and being clear for the reason for reverts is the best policy. wbwolf (t | [/wiki/Special:Contributions/Wbwolf ed]) 04:06, 15 July 2007 (UTC) If it is linked in the summary, ala TTATOT, is that objectionable? The meaning is readily accessible. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 04:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Better, but still preferable not to. Even something like "Nitpicking" would be better. wbwolf (t | [/wiki/Special:Contributions/Wbwolf ed]) 04:49, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

If you think nitpicking means the same as TTATOT I suggest you look at the definition. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 04:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC) Perhaps a standard edit summary that encompasses both notions would be a suitable compromise? After all the edit summary can accommodate pretty lengthy entries. For example: rv; That could refer to lots of things. See TTATOT. That way they get a concise explanation and a more detailed explanation in the page. Everybody happy. We could even provide the code to this summary in the expanded TTATOT page for copy/paste usage as well: rv; That could refer to lots of things. See TTATOT. What say ye all? --Stux 16:30, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

First off, I just want to say, I've been a user here a long time and JUST NOW LEARNED what TTATOT means (I normally just associated it with "no"). And I think Stux's idea is good. Although, (not reading the above paragraph or so of text because it's too long) I assume this won't be a "you get warned on your talk page if you don't do this" standard, but more of an editing suggestion. Email Intros

Is it necessary for us to make a page like this (I forget what they're called):

>Email Intros can refer to any of the following:

04:03, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

A disambiguation page, you mean? --DorianGray 04:04, 1 July 2007 (UTC) Yeah, that's it! Do you think it's necessary to make an Email Intros one? Bad Bad Guy 04:19, 1 July 2007 (UTC) Actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. It certainly cleans up the disambig at the top. Although, the top part isn't really all that big just yet... Hmm. Also, there may be the idea that Email Intros doesn't actually include "Part 1" in its name. (On the other hand, does Part 2 contain Part 2 in its name? I dun have the DVD yet, so...) --DorianGray 04:23, 1 July 2007 (UTC) According to the article for that DVD, the featurette does not have "pt. 2" in its name. Bad Bad Guy 00:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC) Maybe we should change the 2nd sentence to something like, For other uses, see Email Intros (disambigulation), with the article name unchanged. Bad Bad Guy 23:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC) I'm gonna write it now. Bad Bad Guy 02:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure that forcing people to click on two things (going to the disambiguation page, then going to the article they want) is better then having the simple note at the top of each article. We moved to in-article disambiguation a while back and it has worked quite well for us, especially with the use of about/for/for-nothe/. -- Tom 03:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

waitaminute....

if Jackie chapman had a baby then what about the kid from that summer cartoon...?

me? I've always thought that when the chapman brothers (and their wifes) get old, they'd have "homestar runner: the next generation!" — 142.162.137.237 (Talk | [/wiki/Special:Contributions/142.162.137.237 contribs]) 16:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)

The baby in Summer Short Shorts is Very, Very Little Girl, the daughter of Mike Chapman and Missy Palmer. Hope that helps, https://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/thumb/3/33/The-cheat-small.png/20px-The-cheat-small.pngTrey56 17:17, 2 July 2007 (UTC) Er... is probably the daughter of Mike and Missy. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 02:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

There's pretty strong evidence, though (see road trip#Commentary Transcript 2, for example). https://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/thumb/3/33/The-cheat-small.png/20px-The-cheat-small.pngTrey56 03:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Baby Lady baby congratulations?

Since it's known TBC are visiting the wiki from time to time, maybe some kind of note on the main page might be a nice surprise. Something like "The H*R community congratulates on the happy event and wishes all good luck for the future!" (Sorry if the wording is horrible, English is not my native language. It's just an idea, I'm sure you can phrase it better.)

What do you think? --80.135.101.23 18:53, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Any congratulations for Jackie and Matt would have to contain "high fives!" to be acceptable. https://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/thumb/d/dd/Featuredstarsmall.png/18px-Featuredstarsmall.pngI R F[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Invisible_Robot_Fish 18px-Featuredstarsmall.png] 18:56, 2 July 2007 (UTC) I'm not sure about the idea, but yes, it'd have to contain "high fives all the times". —22px-miblogo.pngZelinda 19:28, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I just wrote and emailed one of my own. I made it short and sweet. "Congratulations on the baby. Jnelson09, HR Wiki." --Jnelson09 22:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

We didn't do anything special for the Very, Very Little Girl, so I don't know if it'd be fair to do it for the Baby Lady's baby. I would support an email or a real card from the wiki. For both babies. Wishing them good luck with their diapersmiths and telling them that we hope they use the time to collect new ideas ;-) Loafinghttps://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/7/78/UserLoafingSig.png 22:34, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I see your point, Loafing, but they didn't announce VVLG's birth on the site. We haven't even explicitly confirmed that VVLG is Mike and Missy's daughter. The question is, if they did announce it, would we have done something special last summer? --Jnelson09 22:38, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

In this case, we must forget what's consistent, and stick instead to what's right. We're no longer talking facts and events, we're talking people. If we did not make an official big deal for one shild, what message does it send if we do so now? "We like this child more?" "We'll offer our collective congratulations only if you officially announce your progeny?" This course of action is too likely to come off as either insincere or socially ignorant to be wise. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 09:01, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

You're right. Well, now I'm having another emotional crisis. Why do I do these stupid things? --Jnelson09 23:13, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I think you need some clown care, man. You did nothing stupid as I can tell. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 23:29, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I think we could have some sort of note posted on the main page, linking to some sort of E-card, that says like, "Best wishes, bla bla bla", and can be signed by anyone who wants to, just so they can feel the overwhelming support.

Toons?

Don't you think toons should be placed under features? Toons are like one of the main parts of Homestarrunner.com. It just doesn't seem right without them. I'm not sure if i should be bold or not, but i'm going to do it any ways, it can be fixed later if someone doesn't like it. --Kanjiro 16px-Tennis_ball_2.png talk 20:52, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Toons are already up at the top (Toons! Games! Characters!). We don't need it listed twice. --DorianGray 20:56, 8 July 2007 (UTC) Agree w/ DG. Toons is more than a feature. It's a broad category of what is on the site, and thus is prominently linked above the Features. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 21:02, 8 July 2007 (UTC) My bad. I didn't see that up until now. (by the way, does anyone know how to stop my sig breaking into a bunch of parts?) Kanjiro 16px-Tennis_ball_2.png talk 21:11, 8 July 2007 (UTC) About your sig, add to the beginning of your sig and it won't get broken up anymore. Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:15, 8 July 2007 (UTC) And that requires a at the end, of course. - Qermaq - (T/[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Qermaq C]) Qermaqsigpic.png 21:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Expiration

What does it mean when it says, when viewing a page on homestarrunner.com's info, that the page is going to expire soon? The info of the index page says that page is going to expire August 27, 2007. Does anyone know what that means? Homestar-Winner (talk) 02:40, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

It says August 30th for me 16px-Gooblies_Pet_Lobster.PNG rootbeersoup 03:40, 15 July 2007 (UTC) It means that your browser will keep it in the cache for this long if it hasn't been updated until then. In short: it's just a technical thing that doesn't actually mean anything important. Loafinghttps://web.archive.org/web/20211001000000im_/http://www.hrwiki.org/w/images/7/78/UserLoafingSig.png 03:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

FiLLER

With the slowish few weeks we've been having, I figured some may be at a "take whatever they can get" point. So just a heads up that there's a Trogdor parody video currently featured on the main page at YouTube. Thunderbird[/wiki/Special:Contributions/Thunderbird_L17 ⇔] 18:58, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Update

Wii glitch

Is it notable Glitches that virus and Main Page 22 are not centered properly when viewed on the Wii Internet Channel? I tried fixing it with the control pad, but the sides got cut off. Bad Bad Guy 01:20, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it deserves any mention on the articles themselves. Maybe on a Wii glitches page. Ultimately, though, it comes down to the fact that you're online using a video game console. — It's dot com 01:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
