Instructions · Help Stuffin', muffin, puffin, and fact The names of the characters on Three Is 4 Tonite are a reference to the nicknames of the enemies of Pac-Man (The first three names rhyme and are 2 syllables while the final one is just one syllable). Arguments against: The multiple-rhyming-names-and-one-outlier thing is not specific to Pac-Man. There's nothing connecting this to Pac-Man beyond the coincidence stated. If anything, it's a parody of sitcoms such as "Friends" (not a reference to any specific one; that's just the most well-known such sitcom that I can think of.) Naw, It's a world running gag. Re: arg for: does Limozeen ring a bell? It's a standard joke format – establish a pattern, and then break it. Additional comments: Re: fourth arg against: Not that I support this fact, but... Limozeen is Larry, Perry, Gary, and Mary. Now, if it was, say, Larry, Perry, Gary, and Ralph or something... Wasn't quite my point, nitpicker...was talking about the rhyming part. Oh, I know. But the deal is, the fun fact is referring to Pac-Man's ghosts, Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde/Sue (depending on the version). Limozeen's names don't follow that pattern... and why am I arguing about this? I declined it anyhow. Eep. "Mary" doesn't really rhyme with the other three, anyway. Yes it does. If anything, "Perry" is the one that's a bit off. In this case, the question of which of the names work or don't work would depend on your regional accent. Instructions · Help Eh! Steve Productions Strong Bad's flinging the papers into the air as he types may be a reference to Stephen J. Cannell's closing logo. From: theme song Posted on: 18:45, 8 August 2006 (UTC) Arguments for: Re first arg: Strong Bad checks email on his Lappy, not the typewriter. Re first, second, and third args: Parody doesn't have to match exactly to be a reference. It merely needs to parallel, to evoke the feel of the parodied element. There are other, similar references to real-world shows throughout the theme song. It only follows that this is a reference to something, and this is a rather unique and obvious candidate for that reference. Arguments against: Strong Bad types on a laptop, instead of a typewriter like Cannell. Cannell throws one piece of paper, while Strong Bad throws many. Strong Bad's paper scatters randomly. Strong Bad's paper does not turn into a logo. Not everything he does is a reference to something. It is part of the opening, not the closing. More reminiscent of Mary Tyler Moore's hat. It's not the last clip shown, after throwing the papers Strong Bad is shown in a tank. Additional comments: Here's a video of Cannell flinging the papers. And here's a more recent one. Is there another reasonable explanation for why he would be typing and throw paper? The music during the above video clips and the types of shows at the end of which this logo appeared do tend to fit with the other real-world references spread throughout this toon. Also, the "Strong Bad throwing the paper" clip appears as the song fades, somewhat similar to the Cannell logo. The similarity is very clear. Here's a detailed analysis of the logo. It looks like the one in the early years matches what Strong Bad does. At the very least, there is obviously considerable debate regarding this Fun Fact, and if it passes I believe it should be reworded to denote that it "may be a reference", not that it is. Agreed; fixed. "May be"'s do not make good fun facts. Usually that's right. Sometimes, however, reasonable speculation is appropriate. I think it's more along the lines of Keith Olbermann, who throws his notes into the air before the third commercial break on his show, Countdown. Or a parody of Angela Landsbury's intro in which she stacks her notes neatly in a folder. Instructions · Help STUFF of the Border Strong Bad's suggestion that this email represents "a little south of the border flavor" is a reference to the stereotype that many Americans are not very familiar with geography outside of their own country. Arguments against: His joke seems more aimed at the fact that he stresses the "Rio" in "Ontario". Most Americans know that Canada is north of the United States, stereotype or not. Strong Bad often shows that he doesn't know much about geography. This is no different. He was just pronouncing the place name differently, like he always does, and commented that it sounded Mexican the way he had said it. It wasn't at all based on the stereotype. Additional comments: What? steryotype on the geographic intelligence of Americans? TBC are americans. They wouldn't know anything about this steryotype. I sure haven't heard of it. No, it's a pretty common stereotype. Just watch the Jay Walking segments of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for some prime examples. Nevertheless, just about everyone knows Canada is up top and that "south of the border" is "down Mexico way". As a non-American I can definitely vouch for there being a stereotype of Americans not knowing the geography of anywhere that's not America. I don't understand why else Strong Bad would say it the way he did - the 'Rio' argument is a whole lot more obscure. As an American, it would make more sence that the "Rio" be stressed and then the south of the border comment be made. Strongbad has made enough comments about other countries' culture to assume he would know a little about the geography as well. TBC live in the southern part of America, so they probably hear more about the Rio Grande than most non-Americans. Well, he doesn't know much about the geography of the US either. And while there definitely is such a stereotype (a widely believed one, too), this mix-up is pure Strong Bad, doing what he does best. This one's weak. I'm Canadian, I personally love the stereotype, I think it's pretty funny, but not only is this fact currently worded poorly, I don't think the joke needs to be explained. At most, perhaps a clarification Fun Fact, simply stating that Canada is actually north of the border, for those who actually fit the stereotype, and are further confused as to the actual location of Canada in relation to America. Arguments against: Additional comments: The keyboard shown doesn't even match the Lappy's keyboard. It does, however, match the only other time we've seen a keyboard. Well done.
