Instructions · Help The Holey Grill The smoke from the foggers doesn't come out of the open holes on the top of the grill. From: bedtime story Posted on: 01:50, 26 October 2005 (UTC) Arguments for: The grill has three 'smoke holes' near the top The holes are open. They appear as a much darker black than either the grill cover or the shadowed area on the right. The Cheat also needs some kind of vent for him to breathe; grills don't have vents at the bottom. At the very least, some smoke should have left through the vent at the moment of the explosion as well. It seems rather unlikely that all of visible smoke would have left the grill when it opened up during the explosion, only enough gas to put enough pressure on the grill lid for it to rise would be what would have left. Arguments against: Apparently, the silver metal piece has been turned to the position where it blocks the holes. It is possible that The Cheat is blocking the smoke from escaping as it would otherwise rise. A majority of the visible smoke may have already left when the lid of the grill opened up momentarily after the explosion. The camera pans left about three seconds after the blast so the smoke may have still risen off-screen. In other words, even if the vents were open, the smoke didn't have enough time to escape through the holes before the camera moved away. Additional comments: In reply to the first argument; while that is true on The Cheat's Grill, the metal piece is turned so the holes are not blocked. It is impossible for us to tell if they are blocked or not, because it would appear black behind the holes of the silver piece no matter what. It is possible to tell whether they are blocked; they must be, because no smoke comes out of them. EDIT: In fact, we can tell that they are open. Said smoke holes are much darker than the metal around them, indicating they must be open. If you were going to set a fogger, wouldn't you close off the possible leaks? Strong Bad has done that. That's using the fogger the traditional as opposed to using them to knock someone unconscious. Something about this seems too obvious and unremarkable, like if you said, "The stench from Strong Mad's room in Sick Day only escapes from under the door, not from along the side or the top, so the door is probably firmly closed." Who cares why it doesn't come out of the top, this isn't a physics class. It just doesn't come out of the top, and that's all the fact is saying. There is no how or why in the statement. Right. Who cares that it doesn't come out of the top. Obviously the vents are closed. We don't need a fact to tell us so. What is this being proposed as -- a fun fact, or a goof? (That determines my vote.) It's a goof. No, it's a remark. As long as it's a remark, I'll vote for it. If it ends up as a goof, though, I retract my vote. Remove the word "open" and this incontrovertibly factual. However, I would still vote against it because I don't think it's notable. We have shown through color analysis that the holes are indeed open. That sounds scientific! Arguments for: This makes the fact more specific rather than a simple naration of what happens in the scene. Arguments against: The fact remains that the vents can be and apparently have been closed, demonstrated by the fact that no fog emanates from them. It's unlikely that The Cheat would want those holes open while he's sleeping. Otherwise moonlight, rain, insects, etc could get inside the grill and disturb him. Additional comments: I don't think the first line of the revision is necessary. Remove it, and you've got the version above. It is therefore my opinion that those voting to accept this revision should move their votes up top so that it can be folded back into the original. The original might still have a chance with the support of those below. From: bedtime story Posted on: 15:51, 26 October 2005 (UTC) Arguments for: Quite a few people may not know what a contact buzz is. Arguments against: You can tell the meaning from the context. Additional comments: From this page (does everybody know we have that page?): One of the criteria for an unnecessary fun fact is something "that anybody can figure out by watching the toon or reading the transcript." I had never heard the term contact buzz before seeing this toon, but I was able to discern the meaning of the phrase just by the context. I'd rather not mention drugs in any HSR cartoon. Yes, the meaning may be relevant but it's easily gained from the wording and it sort of ruins the Saturday-morning-cartoon innocence that TBC are going for. If TBC were really going for innocence why would they use a phrase that is almost exclusively used to refer to phenomenon surrounding drugs like marijuana? Let's not start one of those arguments about the appropriacy of H*R content. It is simultaneously true that TBC try to "keep it clean" and regularly include material that is offensive to various parties, and they do not invest either habit with the importance that many fans do. Instructions · Help I Got First Game The Adventures of Lolo and The Adventures of Bayou Billy are both 1-player games, so Moses Malone and The Cheat couldn't play them together. In addition, Moses Malone's questions make it sound like he hasn't been playing the games that The Cheat has. Both of them made the comment "I got first game," implying 1-player games. Additional comments: I often hold the idle second controller even when I'm not playing, out of habit. If I remember right, at least with Bayou Billy, either controller would work, so essentially two players could play the one character. The Cheat could only return the game if he had purchased it used. It was practically impossible back then to play the game without the actual cartridge, so anti-piracy measures wouldn't have been in place. Malone is just talking trash to The Cheat; he's not giving actual advice.
