Of course, if it were installed by Dr. Bubs, it's not surprising. Wild speculation; there isn't even a hint of evidence for this. It's just a joke. Additional comments: Heart attacks don't make people twitch. Does this suggest that the hypothetical internal defibrillator, which should be directing electrical impulses solely to the KoT's heart, is shocking his entire body instead? Modern ICD's have up to 3 leads, so it's possible Bubs put one in the diaphragm because he didn't know which atria to put it in. Instructions · Help Terrible jokes The groans heard when Homestar tells his second redneck joke are from Senorial Day. From: record book Posted on: 18:33, 25 Jul 2005 (UTC) Arguments for: It's the only other place the groans have been heard in Homestar cartoons. It is clearly exactly the same sound, as opposed to a newly-recorded groan. Arguments against: It's questionable that this is notable. The sound is quite generic. This is boring. TBC will probably use this sound more in the future, are we going to note it each time? Let's save this kind of observation for the truly unusual sounds, like the one from the dream sequence in "Jorb Well Done" being reused in sbemail 44 "lures and jigs". There is nothing about the groan that makes it special to "Senorial Day". That is, it's not really from that toon, it's just also used there. When it turns up later (which it will), it will simply be also used again. Additional comments: Music and dialog references usually get noted; reused sound effects usually don't (do they?). Some sound effects HAVE been noted several times as being reused, such as a sound effect in New Boots being originally from Marshmellow's Last Stand. Say you really, really enjoyed the groan - wouldn't you want to know where you can get more hot groan action? Wouldn't you? THis is pointless and no one really cares. its a a flash there not going to have a huge beavy of sounds at there disposal and its not nessacary to to. lets also put in the fun facts "the sound when strongbad types si also found in emails 1-133 (- a couple of times)". sounds are re-used even in high budget cartoonsl. in samation this fact is kinda lame But this isn't a common sound effect like the typing sound, The Paper's "preeeow", the get-up noise, etc. So far, this is only the second appearance of the groans (isn't it?). Unless/Until it becomes a common staple like those other sounds, I think it is notable that the effect is being reused. If these groans are to be used again in future toons, I would propose making the groans into a running gag. Would this fact really be considered "fun" by anyone? I certainly don't think it's fun. To be honest, the "not fun" argument's pretty tired... one person's trash is another's treasure. Same goes for the "it's a stretch" and "it's a coincidence" arguments. Its fairly obvious when a fact is reaching and a good number of the "coincidence" uses are debatable. Additional comments: Sodium intake is not directly linked to causing heart attacks. Rather, excessive consumption is linked to high blood pressure (hypertension), which is a risk factor for heart attacks. Persistent high blood pressure is a risk factor for heart attacks. Arguments for: Arguably not obvious; many people do not know this. Corrected for errors in linking health effects. Arguments against: Still redundant, as it's well-known that salt is bad for the heart. He wouldn't get a heart attack that quickly just from the pile of salt. Salt is bad for you long-term. I don't think the joke is just about the pile of salt, but his lifestyle in general. This is barely any different than the original. Again, it's a joke. You don't need to go ruining every joke in the cartoon that isn't absolutely 100% self-explanitory by elaborately TELLING us why it's funny. Aside from which, salt being bad for the heart is common knowledge. Additional comments: For what it matters, I wasn't aware of this. Regardless, the revision seems to be better than the original. Instructions · Help Salty Reference The King of Town inhaling all of the salt like a vaccum is a reference to the Nintendo character, Kirby, who ate things in the same manner. The sound effect is exactly like Kirby's in Kirby's Adventure, just king-ified. Arguments against: This is a stretch. How can you tell its referencing Kirby? Seems more like a vacuum cleaner reference to me. No, it just is pointing out the king is a glutton. Every cartoon does this joke, it may reference many cartoons. I might understand that this is a reference if it used a sound effect from the games or anime, but it doesn't, it's a standard vac sound effect... slightly king-ified. There's a definite likeness, but didn't Kirby eat things and then fire them back out in a different form? If the King had done that instead of having a rapid series of heart attacks, then it would make total sense. While Kirby certainly comes to mind, there's no evidence that this is an actual reference to Kirby. Additional comments: It seems sort of pointless to point out. Why? Not everyone has heard of kirby you know... I have to agree. If someone thinks it's a Kirby reference, they can feel free to think that, but I don't think it's one way or the other. It might need a rephrase though. The reason is that it is nothing more than speculation. More certain facts have been deleted in the past. I, personally, didn't think of "OMG THEY'RE REFERENCING KIRBY!" I thought "OMG KoT'S A PIG!" I knew this would be declined, but I had remembered an odd bit of trivia about excessive salt consumption being used as a method of suicide in ancient Japan (turns out it was in China, too [1]), so I thought it was interesting TBC chose salt as one of the King's binges. Instructions · Help This Might Be a Fun Fact Homestar's redneck jokes are a reference to Jeff Foxworthy, who is famous for the "You might be a Redneck if..." jokes. I think we should at least acknowledge that these could be a nod to Jerry Clower, Jeff Foxworthy, and other related commedians. I would use language that's a little less absolute than the fact, though. TBC and Jeff Foxworthy are both from Georgia. Arguments against: Although Jeff Foxworthy is the one most associated with redneck jokes, he does not have a monopoly on them. The style of Homestar's jokes is completely different from Foxworthy's "Redneck" lists. TBC are from Georgia. Uh, duh. It's because the new record book's title includes "redneck jokes," and Homestar was probably too stupid to think of a record for himself. There are a lot of redneck comedians: Billy Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy... just pretty much the whole Blue Collar TV crew. Additional comments: Perhaps it is just a reference to the entire Blue Collar Comedy people. The "Redneck joke" thing goes back farther than Foxworthy.
