Here's how to welcome a new user:

The Welcoming Committee

First, you may want to join the welcoming committee by adding #~~~~ to the bottom of the members section.

Finding new users

Recent Changes

[/wiki/Special:RecentChanges Recent changes] is one way to find new users. If a new user has created an account, this will appear in Recent changes:

  • ([/wiki/Special:Log/newusers User creation log]); 12:00 . . User (Talk | [/wiki/Special:Contributions/User ctrbs]) (newusers: Created the user User (Talk | [/wiki/Special:Contributions/User ctrbs]))

If their talk page link is red, then this user hasn't been welcomed, or their talk page is blank (however, this is not always the case: their talk page may have been deleted). If you click on the red link, you may enter your welcome message.

User creation log

The [/wiki/Special:Log/newusers User creation log] is another way to find new users. This will appear on the log:

  • 12:00, 01 January 2006 User newusers (Created the user User (Talk | [/wiki/Special:Contributions/User contribs]))

The date format will vary depending on [/wiki/Special:Preferences your preferences] (under Date format).

Like Recent changes, if their talk page link is red, then this user hasn't been welcomed, or their talk page is blank. If you click on the red link, you may enter your welcome message.

Welcoming

Before welcoming this new user, check the history of the talk page to make sure that this user hasn't been welcomed before.

Now you're ready to welcome the user. Click on their talk page link and type {{subst:welcome|~~~|~~~~~}} in the edit box, Welcome in the summary, and save the page.
